The Alfa Romeo Spider:

Initially launched in 1966 as a successor to the fabled Giulia Spider, Alfa’s new two seater roadster had a lot to live up to. Based on the 105/115 series underpinnings, the Spider was a thunderous success with over 124k cars sold in its 25 year lifespan. The Spiders can be categorized into 4 series, distinguished by both aesthetical and technical innovations over the years. The last “true Spider” was the 4th series which was produced from late 1990 until 1993, nicknamed “la ultima”.

Before the “all new” Spider was supposed to hit the market, Pininfarina got tasked by giving the Spider a proper send-off before the new model’s inception by restyling it one last time. And boy did they nail it. The result was a sleek, elegant open two seater that captured the essence of everything Alfa stands for. The design featured numerous innovations under which full-width body-coloured bumpers, full width rear taillights, 15 inch alloy wheels, ZF power-assisted steering as well as bolting a Bosch Motronic fuel injection system to the glorious twin-cam. The interior was revised too; the central gauges moved to the driver’s instrument panel, the steering wheel of the GTV was installed, the seats were upholstered with Alcantara plus Vinyl and the carpeting was of a luxurious deep pile specification.

Alfa really did go to town with the S4 Spider.

This Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0:

The car on offer here, chassis no. 07001096, was originally consigned via S.A. Alfa Romeo Benelux N.V. to its first Belgian owner on the 3rd of June 1992 in the wonderful specification of Verde Inglese 306 over a Tan interior – the colour combo it is presented in today. It is believed the car has seen just 3 owners ever-since (all Belgian), and has covered a mere 88.000 km’s from new, with just over 20.000 of those km’s after 2000. That indicates less than 1000 km’s on a yearly basis, signifying it has been used as a weekend tourer only by its past custodians.

The car is presented in exquisite condition today, with a clean Car-Pass showing no signs of previous accidents and naturally a warranted mileage. The car itself substantiates this, as all original panels are still in place with no signs of previous repairs of any kind and a superb paint finish overall. Technically it drives as a Spider should, with a poky engine pulling very nicely and a smooth drivetrain throughout. The gearbox has no crunchy synchros for example, as it shifts neat. The body shows no signs of corrosion, as the motorcar has reportedly been stored in a heated garage for most of its life.

The interior is completely original throughout, with little signs of usage. The seat upholstery with the original Alcantara inserts (notorious to wear badly overtime, but here it is in remarkably good nick), original (uncracked) dashboard, original dashboard fascia’s and a superbly neat soft-top with no cracks whatsoever really paint a good picture of the motorcar's superb state. The previous owner installed a modern radio with DAB and phone connectivity to make long journeys somewhat more comfortable, something we believe is very much in-line with the car’s ethos. This Spider comes with its original jack, owner’s manual, owner’s supplement, Car-Pass, tonneau cover and two original sets of keys.

Bite-size:

Standout examples with low mileage of the S4 Spiders are rare, let alone in this sought-after colour combination. Spring is here and so is this utterly dainty specimen of the last “true” Alfa Spider. What’s holding you?
