About the Contessa 26:
The Contessa 26 is a 7.77 meter (25.6 ft) fibreglass monohull sailboat produced by Jeremy Rogers Ltd. It is rigged as a masthead sloop, with a deep keel and a hull-mounted rudder.
Launched in April 1966, early boats proved to be very successful racers, including for long-distance events. It is based on the traditional wooden Folkboat designs. Jeremy Rogers Ltd ceased production of this model in 1977, favouring the larger version: The Contessa 32. Production was continued in Canada until the 1990.
The name of the Contessa 26 came to fame after some remarkable sailing stories such as (among others) Tania Aebi's or Brian Caldwell's single-handed circumnavigations with their Contessa 26s. Such trips are good proof of their seaworthiness and usability.
The Contessa 26 also has a passionate following and excellent class associations, including a Benelux association with annual gatherings.
About this boat:
This boat for sale was purchased directly from Jeremy Rogers Ltd in 1977. Thus she is one of the last ones produced in the UK. I purchased this Contessa 26 from the first owner in 2015 (a Dutch gentleman from Leiden).
The boat is in fair shape, apart from the normal effects of the years. The previous owner had used it mainly in the Netherlands and for a few trips in the North Sea area (Norway, UK, Belgium). He always had it well maintained, probably better than myself.
The interior is spacious and suited for 4 people sleeping (2 at the bow, 2 at the main cabin. It has a sink and a toilet. All indoor lights are LED. The build in cooking fire from the picture is now gone and I give a portable camping gas instead.
I sell the boat with all necessary equipment, including tools, safety equipment, maps and sails. So the boat is basically ready to use, besides the post-winter tuning which I haven't done yet for these season.
