De Prime Electronics & Satellitics PESI / Atlas WP288P Wireless-B PC Card PCMCIA Cardbus uitgebracht in 2003 is voorzien van Advanced Micro Devices AMD Alchemy chipset AM1770 ~ series een zeldzame uitstap van de fabrikant AMD in de wireless WI-FI chip branche. Deze Prime Electronics door de FCC gecodeerde PQP-WP288P branding komt voor bij meerdere merken zoals E-tech , Zonet, NetVision e.a. Overeenkomst is dat ze gebruikmaken van de AMD Wireless controller chip.
Deze module van Pime / PESI WP288P is een prima upgrade als U draadloos gebruik van een (retro) laptop / notebook / (retro) PC systeem/ modules wilt voorzien van een Wi-Fi / Wireless LAN netwerk met high speed netwerkmogelijkheden.

Met deze Prime / PESI WP288P Wireless-B PCMCIA netwerk-adapter kunt U gebruik maken van de hogere snelheden tot ruim 11Mbps , betere stabiliteit en voorzien van de noodzakeljke 64-bit / 128-bit WEP versleuteling beveiliging-standaarden. De Prime / PESI WP288P Wireless-B PCMCIA netwerk-adapter werkt op de 2.4Ghz band frequentie met het IEEE 802.11 B protocol waarbij data speeds van 511Mbps mogelijk zijn en dat is voor alle basis draadloos LAN / WI-FI netwerk, internet en downloaden in de basis voldoende voor een ouder notebook of PC systeem.

Introduction


Wireless LAN technology is becoming increasingly popular for a wide variety of applications.
Its reliability and performance makes it possible to create large-scale and complex wireless networks. Originally designed for indoor office applications, today’s Wireless LANs can be used for both indoor peer-to-peer networks as well as for outdoor point-to-point and point-to-multipoint remote bridging applications. Wireless LANs can be designed to be modular and very flexible.

The Wireless LAN is based on a cellular architecture where the system is subdivided into cells. Each cell is controlled by a Base Station called "Access Point". For smaller networks, a single cell is large enough. A single cell can also work without Access Point.
Some examples are given below. For connecting two or more individual computers with each other, each computer needs a PCI, PCMCIA or USB wireless device. If there is no wired network, no Access Point is needed.

-Peer-to-peer network

For connecting one computer wireless to a wired network, the computer needs a Wireless PCI, PCMCIA or USB device. An Access Point needs to be connected to the hub or witch from the wired network. One access point support 15 to 50 clients.

-Client and access point

For connecting two seperate wired networks, a bridge need to be installed on each network.

Wireless Access Point: The Access Point Connects wireless devices to a wired network.
Wireless Bridge: Connects a wired network to another wired network

Long-range network links: We provide special equipment for long range wireless links. This is a perfect solution for teleworking and for connecting office-branches with each other.

The distance can be up to 5 kilometer. Line of sight is required, especially for long distance wireless links.

For links up to 3500meter, a speed of 11Mbps is available. For longer links, the speed can fallback to 5.5 Mbps.

Operating systems and protocols: Our Wireless LAN products are compatible with the WiFi standard. This means the products are compatible with other brand wireless network devices.

All different kinds of network protocols can be used. The Wireless cards also supports Linux.

Manual installation instructions

1) Unzip the files to a directory (e.g. C:Prime WP288P AMD ).

2) Open Control Panel by clicking Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.

3) Click on System.

4) Click on the Hardware Tab (Device Manager Tab in Windows 98SE and Windows Millenium)

5) Click on Network Adapters and double click on Wireless-B/ Prime WP288P AMD Notebook Adapter

6) Click on the Drivers tab

7) Click on Update Driver

8) Select "Choose the device from a list of compatible hardware.

9) Select "Specify a Location"

10) Point the directory to where you've unzipped the drivers (e.g. C: Prime)

11) Select Wireless-B / Prime WP288P AMD Notebook Adapter

12) Click OK

13) Check the Drivers tab under the device information and verify that the driver version has now changed to 3.20.21
